Sonic Physics 2011

Description

Here's my latest attempt a making Sonic physics, which I've been trying to do for years. I really believe this will be my last attempt. I know what you see here doesn't look like anything, because I haven't added any controls or a big enough stage...

I've worked hard to make sure it can handle a lot of motion. Loops are pretty easy to make, and the system shouldn't allow the character to go through a platform, no matter how fast the character is going.

Stage designing is a little bit more complicated than in previous game engines because, in order for sonic to run from one platform to another, they have to be explicitly "connected". In other words, Sonic doesn't just run along two platforms that are next to eachother unless the stage designer specified that those two platforms are actually the same track.

There's one thing I'm certain of: Sega did something completely different to what I did.

i think the original sonic had tile based collisions. once they coded one loop they could use it as a tile anyplace. explains why all the loops look the same. definitely easier then them making a level one vector at a time.
